The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded at least 271 aftershocks (according to The Inquirer) and about 19 aftershocks in certain Mindanao (as reported Sun.Star Davao). Those aftershocks followed the earthquake of a magnitude of 7.6 that occurred in Visayas and Mindanao areas around 8:45 p.m. last Friday (August 31).

According to Philvolcs, the epicenter of last Friday's earthquake is said to be 112 kilometer of Eastern Samar.

Since then, there were seven separate earthquakes recorded mostly in the area of Surigao with an intensity of five and above. The last was experienced in Burgos, Surigao del Norte, around 10 am between 5.5 to 6 magnitude.

Aftershocks in certain parts of Davao City and Davao del Norte were recorded to be of an intensity 5 last Friday.

Phivolcs pointed out in a report that the 7.6 earthquake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 45 km below seabed.

Phivolcs also issued a tsunami alert, especially to communities along the eastern coast of the country.

The Davao City Disaster Risk-Reduction and Management Council did not record any significant damage or emergency. However in Cagayan de Oro, a women died and one got injured.
