Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU): Community and Sports Center to rise soon downtown

The constructions at the Jacinto campus of Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) are at full force. The Php870 million project commenced last May, aiming to improve infrastructure and the sports facility program at their premises.


As soon as the Society of Jesus in Rome gave its permission, AdDU under the leadership of their president Fr. Joel E. Tabora S.J. started with the long project, which will be the the tallest educational building in Davao City when completed.

The community center of 12 levels and will be intended mainly to the faculty and staff of the university. According to reports, solar panels will be placed on the community center’s roof deck to power the lighting of the building and ceiling fans for the ventilation of the entire building. A communications tower will also be present on the building’s roof. 

The sports center and assembly hall, which will be built beside the community tower, will house eight levels and include athletic facilities including three basketball courts and locker rooms, with a plan of expansion to include two more courts and a fitness area for dance classes and the like.

The said center will rise on the corner of Roxas Avenue and Padre Zamora Street while the Sports Center and Assembly Hall will be located along Jacinto Street. The construction of the two buildings is to be completed within 18 to 24 months’ time, and expected to take face end of this year.

As of the moment (September), the buildings and areas facing Jacinto street were removed and cleared, to give way to the construction company that started erecting phase 1 of the 12-storey community facility.
